about

His first release of 2022, the former Dead 60s frontman returns with a slice of sunshine gilded jangle-pop that will evoke memories of that classic Merseyside sound, slipping neatly between the heroic canons of The La’s to The Coral.

With its breezy Byrdsian chord-structures and its warm heart-on-sleeve lyricism, “Out Of The Cold” very much echoes the nature of his first solo album, ‘Scally Folk’, but “narrowly missed being included” to keep the record at its neat 10-track length. Finally emerging in 2022, it’s a song ultimately about the process of trial and error that finds McManamon reflecting candidly on how learning from past mistakes can often lead us to a happy ending. As Matt explains:

“Trial and error can be a daunting and confusing experience, but in my opinion an essential experience for success and ultimately happiness” he says. “Lyrically I wanted this song to exude a feeling of self-preservation, although this draws on (as most of my songs do) life experience. I feel listeners from all walks and stages of life would be able to relate in some way or another to the sentiments of: 1. Staying positive 2.Staying focused 3. Staying calm. And NOT focusing on any negatives that might be looming throughout daily life.”

Originally written for his debut album, but unreleased until now, “Out Of The Cold” is one of three previously unheard tracks due to be included on an expanded version of McManamon’s first studio outing: 'Scally Folk' (which will be coming soon - details to follow).

lyrics

OUT OF THE COLD
How can you win If you’ve never lost
How can you lose If you’ve never known the cost
I’m thinking back to another time
A stolen dream
And you know that dream was mine
I’m getting back to what I used to know
Take my hand come on baby let’s go

I’m coming up out of the cold
Now all that glitters looks like gold
I’m gonna take my time
And make things go my way
I’m feeling so much better now today

Asking questions only gets you lies
This story's old I can see it in your eyes
You're asking me will I ever change
I can’t explain
Cos I’ll do it all again
I’m getting back to what I used to know
Take my hand come on baby let’s go

I’m coming up out of the cold
Now all that glitters looks like gold
I’m gonna take my time
And make things go my way
I’m feeling so much better now today

They say that time's a healer
Well I’m not sure
I have heard it all before

I’m coming up out of the cold
Now all that glitters looks like gold
I’m gonna take my time
And make things go my way
And make things go my way

I’m feeling so much better now
I feel like I belong somehow
I’m feeling so much better now today
