about

As the former frontman of The Dead 60s and recent live guitarist for The Specials, McManamon is strongly associated with ska, punk, dub and reggae. His solo work however is closer aligned to his Liverpool Irish roots, influenced by storytelling and narratives of real life experiences.

“This song tackles the issue of alcoholism and the subsequent repercussions, namely falling through the cracks of life. In my experience many people have have been touched by this issue in some way shape or form, but sadly the stigma that is attached to alcohol addiction & abuse more often than not creates a wall of silence, playing a huge factor in the continuation of the cycle.
It was originally recorded (ironically above a pub) in Wexford and was then taken to Transmission Rooms Recording studio where drums & bass were added, working it up to the version we now have for release.”

The Dead 60s scored 5 UK top 40 hits, with their debut album surpassing 100k sales. During this time, McManamon and band toured with the likes of Morrissey, Kasabian, and label mates The Coral, appearing on stages from Glastonbury to Top of the Pops. Prior to launching his solo career, Matt also toured with The Specials as their live guitarist.

McManamon’s debut album, Scally Folk, is now set for an early 2021 release.

lyrics

Walking on my own
By the stepping stones
Cracks are showing all the time
The more I saw
The more I wanted more
But I can see the warning signs
I turned and shook
As I had a look
Faded dreams turn to tears
The morning rain
Can really show your shame
And we’ve been doing this
Now for years

And I was
Standing at the crossroads
Anyway the wind blows
Thinking ‘bout the perfect crime
A love and hate romance
Never really stood a chance
Tell me do you feel that pain
Pulling at the reins

Silence kills the feeling
But nobody’s leaving
The only one here today
On dangerous land
You wanna shake my hand
Tell me what are you tryna say
We stood and stared
But never spoke a word
Who cares about the right or wrong
Tired eyes feel the temperature rise
And it’s been going on
Far to long

And I was
Standing at the crossroads
Anyway the wind blows
Thinking ‘bout the perfect crime
A love and hate romance
Never really stood a chance
Tell me do you feel that pain
Pulling at the reins

There’s no easy way now
To tell you how I feel
Just take a chance on me
And tonight I might reveal
But you can’t understand
The grip this has on me
Is everyone too blind to see
Or is it me

And I was
Standing at the crossroads
Anyway the wind blows
Thinking ‘bout the perfect crime
A love and hate romance
Never really stood a chance
Tell me do you feel that pain

Well I was
Standing at the crossroads
Anyway the wind blows
Thinking ‘bout the perfect crime
A love and hate romance
Never really stood a chance
Tell me do you feel that pain

Pulling at the reins
Pulling at the reins
Pulling at the reins
Pulling at the reins
